Playing on the phrase I love you, the artwork was showcased at John Yuyi’s installation exhibition in Taiwan. When sketching the idea, the artist was inspired by the things that are easily accessible in our home and daily life. She went to a 100 yen shop in Tokyo in search of ideas, and then photographed the chosen object in the sink of her friend’s apartment.
The piece draws our attention to the hidden advertising behind the most approachable things in our daily life. To make it more lifelike, she picked a random selfie taken that same morning. The resulting artwork is emotional, personal and poetic, while also fueling the consumer culture discussion at the heart of the project.
