The featured image was taken in 2019 as a commissioned editorial project for Self Service Magazine while John Yuyi was traveling to Tokyo. It is inspired by the phenomenon of influencers putting products next to their faces and posting them to social media for promotional purposes, as well as by more traditional advertising practices, where the ambassador’s face is placed on the product they are selling.
As a contrast, John Yuyi focused on using faces and skin as a canvas, filling them with temporary tattoos depicting corporate icons, products and selfies of the people she photographed.
